April has been a killer month, but it's almost over. This morning we had the big planting event for La Mesa Verde, with 100 families and 100+ volunteers getting their flats of summer seedlings and going off to plant them. It was barely organized (or outright) chaos at various points, but seems to have worked out in the end.

I stopped at a nursery yesterday to get more empty flats for organizing the LMV plants, and, well, a bunch of plants jumped into my car, honest! A gorgeous variegated fuchsia, a bronzy/rust/gold heuchera, a heart-breakingly lovely peach gazania, and a variegated ipomea. Now I need to find places for them to live.

When I got back this morning, I planted all of my recent succulent acquisitions, so that's progress. I should take some pictures of the succulent bed now to compare to last summer's initial planting. I had some die-offs, and a few are just barely hanging on, but several are well-established and spreading. It's what I expected, given that I'm not giving them ideal soil and that we do have frosts and light freezes in the winter. So I plant some more and see who's still around by this time next year.

Strawberries, I have strawberries! Tiny little Alpine ones. To my delight, the main pot sent out runners last year to root in the side pots, so I don't even have to divide the big clumps this year. I'm very pleased.
