I know full well that I should do backups regularly. I even figured out how to burn backups onto DVDs. But it was a hassle and the idea of accumulating stacks of superceded DVDs was unappealing, not to mention wasteful. Once I heard about Time Machine, I knew I wanted to upgrade to Leopard. And so I did, but then I needed a drive.
magscanner said he had a drive I could use, but he had to deal with the stuff stored on it first. Eventually he did, then it sat on my desk, waiting for me to find time to deal with it. After the holidays, I promised myself. At Macworld on Thursday, I listened to a 'maintaining your Mac' talk which convinced me I needed a second backup drive as well, so I found an at-show deal on a very cute little Rocstor 5CX that's just a little bigger than a box of playing cards! I've now made a backup on one drive to store off-site and set up Time Machine with the other. Go me!
I should probably tweak the Time Machine set up, make exceptions for some files or folders, etc. Haven't researched/thought my way through that part yet. I didn't empty the trash before I started, so there's a pile of junk that really didn't need to be backed up. Maybe I'll even start over after figuring some of this out. But hey, it's a great start!
Backups and Facebook, two of my 'do it after the holidays' items I can check off my list.
