Some things out, more things in
Jan. 6th, 2009 12:21 amI used up all of the blood oranges I collected yesterday: 2 in a salad tonight, 3 to make an almond-orange cake (flourless) for a potluck tomorrow, then the final one to make a quick icing for the cake (dark red juice plus powdered sugar = a surprisingly PINK icing).
Also out of the refrigerator: some spiced apple cider and a head of red cabbage, along with some onions, butter, and apples, to make German red cabbage. The leftovers went back into the fridge, but still, it's more compact. However, also in the fridge now is the leftover roasted pork and potatoes served with it. The cycle of leftovers resumes. I posted copiously about the roasted pork over on Chowhound if you're curious.
The funny thing is that I was so caught up with making the cake, pork, and potatoes that I nearly forgot to make the red cabbage, which was the impetus for the whole menu! I don't think I've ever done that before. Luckily, it all worked out, even though I was still in my gym clothes when
voidampersand ,
spikeiowa , and brother arrived. They were all quite appreciative of the final results.
