I've just determined that I can indeed fit a 15-lb turkey in a double batch of brine in an 18-qt container into my refrigerator. There will be smoked turkey for the party tomorrow. You're all invited. You can play spot the garden art.

P.S. The package claims that the frozen turkey should thaw in 2 days. I didn't believe them and took it out Monday evening. It was still frozen in the center today. I realize that submersion in the brine would have thawed it anyhow, but this way I was able to extract and discard the icy, extraneous bits before brining, not to mention removing the bondage device (I like my turkeys loose-legged and fancy free).
