The weekend
Mar. 16th, 2009 11:07 pmSaturday I was listless and out of sorts because the promised afternoon sun never arrived. At least I managed to produce my calendar, but I didn't go outside to do any yardwork. I don't normally mind grey weather, but I was expecting a warm, sunny day, and instead it was cold and gloomy.
Sunday I resolved to get out and do stuff even if it was grey.
magscanner suggested we go for a walk before doing yardwork. We set off to finish our last unwalked section of the Los Gatos Creek Trail. And lo, the sun came out, against all predictions, though weirdly it was just sunny where we were, with banks of ominous grey all around us. But the sun lasted our entire walk and through the brunch we treated ourselves to afterwards. Driving home we left the circle of the sun, and it was still grey at home.
Then we tackled the yard project -- seriously mulching (cardboard AND woodchips) under the fig tree. It's stupid to weed it every year when a longer lasting solution is available, but we never took the time to do it until this year.
magscanner had just cut back an evergreen, so I ran the branches through the chipper for a nice deep layer of mulch. It takes much longer than it sounds, because it's a small chipper and I can't put much through at a time. Still, it's done now!
We hope the evergreen survives its severe pruning. Fingers crossed. We should have done it earlier, but there were holidays, then there was rain, then the jays had a nest in there. The jays still have a nest, but it's unoccupied at the moment. They keep coming to look at it, perhaps puzzled as to why it's no longer as hidden as it used to me. Sorry, guys!
