We went to the SubZero street fair last night, part of the 01SJ festival. The Glacial Retreat Dress Tent was very cool (not literally, though the wind was chilly and I was wearing a heavy jacket). There were various interactive art booths of various sorts, most of which seemed silly to me, but I give them points for trying. There were some art cars, of course, and they were ones we hadn't seen before, which was nice. The museums along the street were open, and we saw some very cool stuff, especially at the Museum of Quilts and Textiles. The geometic quilts by Gloria Hansen (she paints in Photoshop, prints onto fabric, then cuts and pieces the quilts) and the digital Jacquard weavings were particularly stunning.

The city hall rotunda features a delightfully creepy video installation. I would have liked to have watched it for longer because the tendrils move quite slowly, but the wind was vicious on that plaza, so we didn't hang around.

My favorite installation so far is the Portal, Wormhole, Flythrough which is set up on a corner of the SJSU campus just behind the SJ library. It's totally cool, but looks so lonely and vulnerable out there. If you're local, go see it before some idiot puts it out of commission (whether intentionally or unintentionally).
