Day 3, the usual
Sep. 2nd, 2007 09:02 pmMore of the same, though I've stopped using the crutches I borrowed. I didn't really need them, strictly speaking, but they seemed like a good idea for the first day or two. Pretty much the same ibuprofen, vicodin, and ice routine.
My foot is a little achier this time than last, but it's also not quite as tightly bound up, possibly related. Last time the elastic bandage was so tight it was really irritating, like having my foot almost falling asleep. I even called the office about it and they told me I could cut off the part around my ankle, which helped a bit. But this time, it's loose around my ankle and much more comfortable.
My books today have not been successful. Putting on the Ritz by Joe Keenan had the potential to be a comic farce, but it just became too irritating. There were some clever bits, but not enough. I got more than 3/4 of the way through it before I gave up and skipped to the final chapter just in case that inspired me to read the intervening material. It did not.
Then I picked up Undead and Unpopular by MaryJanice Davidson which is a pathetic excuse for a book. Okay, it's one of Queen Betsy's hallmarks that she doesn't make a lot of sense and focuses on minor details while everyone else is trying to get her to see the big picture. But this time it's the author not focusing! And the whole zombie thing was really irritating. She brings it up right at the beginning, and alludes to it at various points, finally has an encounter that doesn't make any sense, then . . . nothing. No further explanation, no discussion, no development. The whole book is like that, lots of filler, then abrupt action, followed by more filler. Too bad, the other books were fun, but this was clearly the product of a contract deadline. The typeface is almost embarrassingly big. They shouldn't have published this one. Grump.
Next up: Loving Little Egypt by Thomas McMahon. I'm counting on you,
