Day 2, still okay
Sep. 1st, 2007 09:50 pmAnother day on the couch. The iceman cometh at 20 minute intervals, ferrying ice packs to and from the freezer. We're constantly amazed at how quickly 20 minutes passes.
Today I talked more than read -- to my two sisters, one sister-in-law, and my dad. Then I poked around with rss feeds a bit more, managing to set up a new one successfully (I think).
The foot's a bit achier this time than last time, though I still wouldn't call it painful. But I'm keeping up the vicodin doses, one after each meal then one before bedtime. The toe on the foot I had done 5 weeks ago needs to bend more. The doctor says it's the internal scar tissue and I just need to keep working it to soften and stretch it. So I'm taking advantage of the pain medication to give it some extra exercise and massage. After all, it's my good foot now!
Today's books: I finished (having started earlier last week) The Hounds of the Morrigan by Pat O'Shea, which someone on my f-list recommended. It's a very imaginative YA quest novel set in Ireland. I shy away from traditional fantasy, but this one was certainly well written. I especially enjoyed her occasional flashes of wry humor.
I also read The Neddiad by Daniel Pinkwater, which, it occurs to me, is almost the antithesis of Morrigan. Nobody knows what's going on, nobody's providing guidance. It's Pinkwater, so it's all silly, surreal, and over-the-top. I started reading this well over a year ago on the web when he was publishing it a chapter at a time, but the chapters were so tiny, it was taking forever and I couldn't track it, so I gave up. Last week I realized I could probably get it from the library. Hooray for libraries!
Next up: Putting on the Ritz by Joe Keenan, which someone on my f-list described as the funniest book she's ever read, a promising recommendation.
