Salad tonight was shredded radicchio dressed with a walnut oil-sherry vinegar vinaigrette, and topped with shredded Comte cheese and toasted walnuts. A straight radicchio salad is rather challenging, but the rich flavors of the cheese and walnuts and the sharpness of the sherry vinegar provided the necessary counterpoint. Many recipes call for sweet ingredients like balsamic vinegar or fruits, but to my mouth, the sweetness accentuates the bitterness of the radicchio in a bad way.

So that was half of the radicchio head. I think the other half is destined for a frying pan with bacon.

Health update: I'm nearly well! I still have annoying mucous production clogging my vocal chords occasionally. I guess I should be happy that my body is making sure the last of the sinus infection is really, truly cleared out. But gads, I'm getting tired of this. Still, better every day. I even went to the gym today.

Btw, the only thing that really helped with the nighttime coughing was Chloraseptic spray. I even used it last night still. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] naomi_traveller !

Chloraseptic spray tastes like green poster paint to me, and I can't open wide enough to get the pray far enough back to do any good. Numbing my tongue is about as good as I get with the stuff. Glad you're feeling better, though.

I agree that the taste isn't pleasant. Nor can I manage to actually spray my throat. What I do is spray it towards the back of the tongue and try to swallow it in the direction that needs numbing. I'm surprised at how much I can manage to direct the swallowing, though it helps if I get the dose towards the right, left, or middle.

I think if you open your mouth really wide, then push down carefully on your tongue with a small spatula (or even a tiny fishlifter) to ease it out of the
way, you might be able to hit your throat or at least a tonsil. Gee, in the interest of Science, I'm tempted to go try that now, but I have no Chloraseptic... PAM might work for this experiment, but I don't have that either.

I had it too, and am damn glad it's almost all gone.

I used Elderberry lozenges (Sambucus), Emergen-C, Quercetin chews (FRS brand), and vegetarian hot-and-sour soup from Chef Chus to get over the worst of it.

Glad you're feeling better, way before Potlatch.
