The gophers have taken out five tomatoes so far. Five! None of the traps we set Friday had been tripped.

Today I learned how to smoke bomb gophers. Die, die, die. (Fingers crossed.)

Even though I knew what you were talking about, for a second I parsed the sentence wrong and wondered, "What the heck are bomb gophers? And why are you smoking them? Is this some new, hip, drug-related slang?" A split second...

Difficult to write this with a straight face

We've had luck by combining the smoke-bomb approach with the battery-operated ground vibrator sticks. I really don't know if the smoking actually killed the critters, or if it just made them go somewhere else for while. In front, the one place we have "lawn", we only did the sticks and that was sufficient.

I do know that the dogs walking by does activate the sticks, so you might not find them as helpful. But, our dogs don't go out front; it's only cats at night.

p.s. Yes, I thought the same thing when I saw the sticks. It's been difficult to write this with a straight face, but it's not a joke.
