Like others, we are working our way through the leftovers in the refrigerator. Two days ago I made a very nice, very spicy curry (Patak's Vindaloo paste) with leftover broccoli stalks, a very large turnip that was just barely broached, the last of the carrots, and a small kohlrabi. It was excellent, even if I had to eat yogurt with every spoonful. The next day I decided a split pea soup would be nice. My split peas are so old, they're fading from green to yellow, so using them up (though I only used half) counts towards cleaning up as well. They cooked up fine, despite their age. We had just had a ham bean soup, so I was musing on other flavors to add to the split peas. Aha, the leftover turnip curry! And it was brilliant.
So now the refrigerator is nearly clean. There are some scraps of cheese, though I almost always have them, and dabs of creme fraiche and sour cream. Also a container of spiced cider plus a head of red cabbage that I have plans for. Some very small pomegranates from a neighbor that I'm dubious are worth dealing with; they might go straight to the compost. The apples and clementines don't count, since they or something like them are staples. The blood oranges I just collected from the ground today (can't imagine why the tree is dropping them already) rank higher on the must use list, because the tree is loaded with even more. They're a bit tart at this point for straight eating, so I must get creative.
Still, I beam with delight at my nearly empty refrigerator and find myself loathe to go shopping and fill it up again. So clean!
