Happy 11 & 12, the end
Dec. 24th, 2008 12:00 amDay 11 - Monday
I feel a bit guilty about this last one: I think my dad will be going to the 5:00 xmas eve mass tomorrow, alone. I've never wanted to make an issue out of religion, and when I stay with him, I go to church and just think of it as an interesting anthropological experience. But I don't really want to take the time on the 24th or 25th. He must, surely, understand that we don't go to church ourselves! The fact that we have no idea what the mass schedule is should be clue #1. I suppose he simply hopes that if he pretends not to notice, we'll go along with it. But I'm trying to resist getting sucked in, and the 5:00 mass tomorrow is a convenient one to pack him off to while I finish dinner prep (there's a church just 2 blocks away, so he can just walk, doesn't even need a ride). So it'll work out well. Yet I would feel better if the issue were out in the open. I wonder if I could manage to say to him, "Look, Dad, I know religion is important to you, but it's not to me." Not sure if it would make him feel better if we talked about it explicitly though, so I hesitate. Sigh.
Kind of a bummer to end on, but hey, it's after midnight, so it's day 13 now.
- Kitchen & dining room floors mopped!
- My new crown is installed and working beautifully. (Almost no residual gum soreness either.)
- Dinner with my dad, just arrived in CA from AZ, at my brother & sister-in-law's.
- I took my dad to a Malaysian restaurant for lunch, and he quite liked it. He's always been an adventurous eater and curious about new foods.
- We went for a long walk along the Los Gatos Creek trail, discussing birds, plants, and a variety of subjects.
- There was a nice bit of sun peeking out most of the day, despite the gloom & rain predictions.
- We shopped at Trader Joe's, so I have nearly everything I need for tomorrow (must get bread and ice cream in the morning), and he found some things too.
- I made apple-mincemeat pie for tomorrow night. I'm hosting xmas eve, my brother & sil are hosting xmas day.
- We went to an amusing build-your-own burger place with my brother & sil and shopped at Surly Table. Bought some Riedel glasses we've been considering, so we'll press them into use tomorrow night. (They're what Riedel calls chardonnay/chablis glasses, but we think of as nice, all around wine glasses.)
