I went to yoga tonight and really worked out those tight shoulder muscles that have been plaguing me all day long. Got my hands back to back in Eagle Arms! Just barely, more like tops of fingers to back of thumb, but I did. Really great for those back shoulder muscles. I didn't come even close to wrapping the legs, but that's okay. Nor did we try doing arms and legs at the same time -- hey, this is beginning yoga.

I started going last winter and have really been enjoying it. I've wanted to try yoga for years, but my initial attempts (community ed and classes at the gym back in Minneapolis, classes at the gym here) were all disappointing. The gym classes, in particular, are often taught by repurposed aerobics instructors (they readily admit that the only yoga they know is the poses they've learned to incorporate into these pseudo-yoga aerobics routines) or if they actually do know yoga, they're morphing it into an aerobics workout. Regarding community ed, I'm sure there are good teachers around, but the ones I ran into back in Mpls were unqualified and incompetent. Bad luck, I suppose.

So I dithered for years, picking up brochures for various places, almost registering for classes, never quite doing it. This year I decided I was going to do it and checked out the classes at our current gym, where it was the usual disappointing story. So I finally did what someone years ago told me to do, "You're just blocks away from the Center for Spiritual Enlightenment. They've been teaching yoga for decades. Why don't you go there?"

So I did. And I'm finally satisfied.
