Doing well

There's been remarkably little pain so far. This is not a complaint, mind you, though I am a bit surprised. The doctor said I should feel little or no pain, but I didn't really believe that.

I'm taking Ibuprofen 3 times a day for its anti-inflammatory effect and vicodin as needed. I have to admit that yesterday I took the latter more prophylactically than strictly as needed, just in case. And I took one first thing this morning, but now I guess I'll wait and see if I really need another. Could the ibuprofen by itself be sufficient to keep the pain at bay?

I'm spending the days lying in state on the couch, being waited on most solicitously by [livejournal.com profile] magscanner, listening to music, and reading. So far I've read:

What the Lady Wants by Jennifer Crusie, fun but not as funny or creative as some of her others. I liked the one about the three sisters-in-law, one of whom starts working for a detective agency. I don't remember the name.

Undead and Unappreciated by MaryJanice Davidson, which had some very funny bits, takes place in the Twin Cities (I didn't know this when I picked it up), but ends rather unresolved. Oh well, it's a series. Maybe I'll pick up more. I know I started in the middle, but it doesn't seem important. I find myself skimming over the sex scenes in romance books like this and the Crusies. I suppose that's what most people read them for, but they just seem overdone and silly to me.

The Wide Window by Lemony Snickett. I bought a set of the first three for my niece, but my sister thought they were too dark & scary for her at her age. Maybe a few years down the line. I think they're very funny. I especially like how he talks to the reader and defines words and phrases in that snarky way.

Fair Weather by Richard Peck, a charming y/a book about the Chicago Columbian Exposition

I tried reading Melusine by Sarah Monette but was put off by the violence. If someone out there loves it, feel free to convince me to give it another chance. I got about 45 pages in.

I think I'll try Inamorati by Midori Snider next.

I'm pretty sure I'll be up for going to "The Quaker Girl" performance tomorrow, bringing along a couple of pillows so I can elevate my foot somehow. Woohoo, such excitement.
