Sunday afternoon we took a break from garden labors and went to the San Jose Museum of Art. There was an M. C. Escher exhibit I wanted to see before it went away (April 22) and I had vague recollections of there being other interesting exhibits as well. Indeed, there were.

In conjunction with the Escher exhibit (which was wonderful, though small) was an Op Art exhibit with some really fabulous pieces. I was particularly intrigued by a piece that generated moiré effects with twisted wire shapes hanging in front of a black and white lined background. As you walked past it, the moiré patterns would appear and disappear

Then there was a collection of works by Jess, a San Francisco artist who worked in several styles, but particularly in collages. Too much detail for my poor little brain to deal with, but interesting nonetheless.

The ballpoint abstrations by Il Lee were fascinating, much more interesting in person than these images suggest. Some of them, like that top image, looked like they were made with hair glued onto the paper.

Finally, the Listening Post installation was modestly interesting, plus it offered an excuse to sit for 20 minutes to watch/listen to it run through all of its 'movements.'

A lovely Sunday afternoon outing.
