Gardening and Green Elephants
Apr. 5th, 2007 09:56 pmToday I did almost nothing but work outside. It was great -- no errands, no appointments, no meetings, just staying at home and working in the garden. Though not gardening, mind you. The first couple of hours were spent shifting compost and soil from one end of the garden to the other.
magscanner had prepared a large hole where there used to be concrete. I filled the hole with compost and soil, and he rototilled it in. Eventually the concrete will end up where the compost and soil were. Honest, it makes sense, we're not just moving stuff around for the fun of it.
Then I spent most of the afternoon sorting through items in the storage area. I put things away. I threw things away. A few items went into the recycling bin. And many items got moved out for the upcoming Green Elephant sale at the Master Gardeners Spring Garden Market, like all the trellises and all the soaker hoses I no longer use. Now the pile of rocks under the deodar cedar which used to be festooned with hoses, pipes, tomato cages, and ladders only has a dusting of cedar needles on it. Perhaps someday the rocks themselves will move too.
I'm particularly pleased with myself because I've been thinking I should donate some of those Green Elephant items for the last couple of years, yet not remembering them or not getting either them or myself organized in time. But this year I'm ready, a full week ahead of time! Go me.
Next clean up task: deciding just how many stake-shaped random pieces of wood I actually need and get rid of the rest. Exciting times in the garden.
