Blood from an orange!
Apr. 1st, 2007 11:52 pmMy blood oranges are totally, deeply, maroonly colored! I am thrilled. And they taste good too. They're Moro, which some people like and others dislike, but I'm (now) happy with. I had planted the tree several years ago. It never set any fruit and I had just about given up on it. In fact, I was convinced that the Moro graft had died and root stock had taken over. But then last year it flowered. It set fruit. I still thought they'd be sour oranges, good for marmalade if nothing else. But then they colored up!
In case you're wondering about the harvest time, I actually picked the oranges in December right before the big freeze and kept waiting for the right time to try them. Tonight was finally right.
