I recently ran across this tidbit. There's a prescription medicine called Vaniqa which is used for reducing unwanted facial hair (UFH -- they use an acronym for it!) in women of a certain age. Its active ingredient is eflornithine, which also happens to cure African sleeping sickness. Whoa, talk about a side effect! Although actually, that use was known earlier, but drug companies stopped making it because it wasn't a paying market. Doctors without Borders have been lobbying to continue the manufacture, but with much success. Vanity to the rescue! Now it's worth manufacturing eflornithine again.

Still working out some details
