Yesterday was Master Gardener Spring Garden Market. We sold out of tomato seedlings in the first hour -- that was nearly 6000 seedlings! Luckily, there were plenty of pepper seedlings and various other vegetables and ornamentals, but we had many disappointed customers. Glad [livejournal.com profile] alces2 got his. And it didn't rain, wonder of wonders!

Today we went for a waterfall walk in Berkeley, in an area on the north side of the University. The houses, the gardens, and the surroundings were just amazing, hard to believe we were only blocks away from major urban streets. But the sky starting dripping on us in a mild yet insistent way, so we went off for brunch at Saul's Deli. Worth the wait. (I nearly typoed that as weight, which is also true.) Yum.

On the way back to SJ, we passed out of the rain, so we stopped at an East Bay shoreline park for a quick walk. It turned out to be a split personality park -- half group picnic areas and half dog park. Plus a mysterious, undulating metal sculpture on top of a hill, sure to bemuse both groups. Great views of the San Leandro Marina and the Oakland Airport. We're not likely to go again, but we were sufficiently amused. And about 5 minutes after we got back in the car, it started raining. What timing.

We were so stuffed from brunch, we fell back on our usual dinner choice for such situations: chopped apples and celery with yogurt, nuts, and raisins. A sort of ersatz Waldorf salad, it seems to comfort our over-burdened digestive systems. If Straus Family Creamery ever stops making yogurt, I don't know what I'll do. It's the only yogurt I've ever had that tastes great without any additional flavorings or sweetening. Yum. Organic and local to boot.

I finished the day by ordering rhubarb plants (I'm going to compare 7 varieties for taste, production, and hardiness in this hot summer/mild winter region), paying bills, cleaning up e-mail, and taking a nice, warming bath with a Karma bubble bar. Very nice on this cold, blustery, rainy night. Sleep tight.

Addendum: How could I forget to mention running into [livejournal.com profile] rutemple at the sale on Saturday? I'm looking forward to seeing the results of her straw bale gardening experiment. 16 bales, whoo!
