Bras, bras everywhere
Dec. 29th, 2004 09:37 pmI went to Victoria's Secret with high hopes, but alas, it was a bust (ha ha). They were certainly much better set up than they used to be for trying on samples (although the bras in the sample box were not to my taste for the most part -- mostly padded or foam cups). After trying on many, with a fitter making suggestions, I finally gave up.
But here's the kicker -- the fitter recognized my beloved Lane Bryant bra. It turns out that V.S. and L.B. are sister companies. Not only that, but V.S. used to carry that particular bra design in smaller sizes. Notice the tense used to. They don't anymore, even though they were popular. Argh!
And in the end, the bra I thought I needed to replace fit far better than anything they had. So I guess I'll stick with them until they really, really don't fit. Hmph. (Btw, the first fitter insisted I should wear a C and the second fitter suggested DD. It is to laugh. The D's, of course, came closest.)
ladyjillian's earlier comment reminded me that one time while I was in London, I extravagantly went to Rigby & Peller for a fitting. I rummaged through my drawers until I found the bras I bought. The fitter there put me in an F(!) which fits surprisingly well. The cups look great, although a bit wider apart than I normally choose. But the underwires really are too large for me, digging into my ribs underneath and poking me under my arms. Too bad. But the worst thing is, the underwires creak! I feel like I'm wearing a whalebone corset. I can't remember if they creaked from the outset or if, more likely, something in how I washed them precipitated it. I don't suppose I can do anything to cure it now.
